Note:  George F. Spurlock was a stock farmer who owned his farm.

When you combine the children listed in the 1920 and 1930 US Census you have four children for George  F. Spurlock and his wife India.

George W. Spurlock was born about March of 1915.  Dale Marr in her records list a John Henry Spurlock, b. December 15, 1915.  Either John Henry was born prematurely or he is the George W. Spurlock of the 1920 US Census.  There is no John Henry Spurlock listed in the US Census for George F. Spurlock and India.

Almo G. is probably George W. and Almo is a nick name.

Notes from Betty Smithson:

George's full name is George William  Elmo  Spurlock.  His nick name was John Henry.  Robert told me the story of how he got that name:  A Mexican horse wrangler who worked for them when John Henry was very young called him Juan Enricho because he was such a tough little kid and he named him after the John Henry in the song, "John Henry the Steel Drivin' Man"  and the name stuck.  I never knew he had another name until I got this file from Cleatus A. Lewis.  His SSDI gives his name as S. E. Spurlock.  We know it is him because it has his exact birth date.  Glee Spurlock has other research proving that he used the name Saint Elmo Spurlock.  It would stump any researcher!!

I  (Betty) have done extensive research in the Texas Vital Records and have not found a marriage record for George and India, or birth or death records for Laska or George William (John Henry) who were born in Texas.

Another note from Betty:  29 Feb 2012.  I spent the morning at home going through the R.A. Spurlock envelope of pictures.  I found a picture of a beautiful child about 1 year old labeled "Laska" daughter of George and India Spurlock who died young!  I vaguely remember the name and that they did have a daughter.  I called Robert and asked if his parents had a daughter.  He said “Yes, she was the first born, about 1912.”  I told him I had a lovely picture of her, did he want me to send a copy. He said “No, send it to someone who is going to be around longer than I am.”  Then he told me he was on hospice and that he had cancer and that he didn’t have long to live.  Raymond Beckham and I made arrangements to go to Nevada to see him before he died.  He passed away 8 March 2012 just two days after we were there.
