All the posterity of David Spurlock Jr. will be eternally grateful for the work done by all of these people but especially Richard Austin Spurlock and his sister/mother Allie Lucretia Spurlock Pincham who compiled a priceless collection of memories, stories, pictures and histories into the book ‘The Spurlock Story’ by Richard Austin Spurlock.
  • Cleatus A. Lewis 1932 – 2011 of Modesto, California researched and compiled facts and stories of the Spurlock Family from Colonial days in Virginia until at least 2003 when he gave me a copy of his file and gave me permission to use it to build my file.  I double checked everything I took from his file before I entered it into my file.  I have found zero (0) mistakes in his file!  He was an impeccable researcher!  He knew David Reed Spurlock very well because our Uncle Dave spent his last years living near Cleatus’ family.  Cleatus call them Uncle Dave and Aunt Katherine.

  • Georganna Bushman Spurlock  1906 - 1998 Spurlock.  (aka: Namina, Aunt Georgie).  Her Bushman and Smith families had numerous and competent researcher/genealogists, and because of the love she had for her Spurlock family, our mother devoted her time to collecting Spurlock history and genealogy.  I am constantly amazed at how much she accomplished!  I know how many ‘irons she had in the fire’!  How did she do so much! She did an amazing job collecting Spurlock names, dates and history and she and Daddy (Ransom Crocket) hosted reunions that have no equal!

  3. Spurlock history by cousins, Grace and Flora Foreman.  They are daughters of Mary Katherine Spurlock, a sister of Robert Archibald and the wife of Isaac Wylie Foreman.
  4. Spurlock history by cousins, Elizabeth and Belle Spurlock Cummings.  They are both daughters of Uncle David Drury Spurlock and both married men named Cummings.  They had each written a little history and given it to Georganna Bushman Spurlock, aka Namina.
  5. Research of Cleatus A. Lewis, son of Dollie Spurlock who is a granddaughter of John Thomas Spurlock another brother of Robert Archibald.  He has compiled a massive (almost 400 pages) history of Spurlocks.  He gave me his huge file years ago and it is the best serious research that has ever been done on the family.  He is now deceased.
  6. History of our family found in books at the Family History Library:  God, Grass and Grit a history of Sherman County trade area.  A Windswept Land.  100 Moore Years, etc. as well as various internet sites.
  7. Spurlock history compiled by Don Wagoner who was hired by Namina to compile a history of the David Spurlock Jr. Family.
  8. Some Spurlock history compiled by Mary Fern Souder a Spurlock researcher who heads up a Spurlock DNA project. (She has helped me with a tough Leverton research problem.)
